Real pieces of history at Rallylegend

Accessing Parc Fermé at Rallylegend, which is not closed off but open so that the public can enter and move among the cars parked there, is like opening a treasure trove of precious gems.

Some shinier than others, yes, but all with a tale to tell, flaunting liveries that are impressed on the minds of the fans. A dynamic history book that, during the edition that will open on Thursday 12 October, is set to present some sensational chapters.

Starting with a true ‘queen’, or rather two beautiful examples of Lancia Stratos, one from 1975, a former “Speedy” Perazio and now entrusted to Federico Ormezzano, and the other, a Bernard Darniche vehicle now in the hands of one of the Avandero brothers. Aldo Fasan, a well-known name in rallying in the 70s and 80s, will drive his stunning Alpine Renault A110, the same vehicle, an ex-Bernard Darniche, that will see Alain Serpaggi at the wheel at Rallylegend. Remaining in the Renault camp, Renè Arnoux will have an ex-Chatriot R5 Turbo Diac. From 1986, Paolo Valli’s always attractive Lancia Delta S4 Martini Racing, driven at Montecarlo by Miki Biasion. Formerly driven by Colin McRae, the 1990 Subaru Legacy of “Lucky” Battistolli has real pedigree, as does the ex-Auriol Toyota Celica ST185, first in the 1993 Sanremo rally, that will be driven by Juha Kankkunen, and the Lancia Delta Integrale Martini Racing that will be reunited with Andrea Aghini, who powered it to victory in the 1992 Sanremo. And then a long list of Subaru Imprezas with a prestigious past, such as the legendary N1WRC driven by Colin during the 1996 season, which will be exhibited and on parade, and the equally memorable L555BAT, a car belonging to the family of the late Colin, which will be driven by Jimmy McRae with niece Hollie on the notes. The Impreza that won the 2001 world title with Richard Burns will see Jo Burns, sister of the late English champion, on board as co-driver. No less prestigious in terms of their past are the two Ford Escort Cosworths that will be driven by Miki Biasion and Francois Delecour. For the Italian champion, the livery of his last world win at the 1993 Acropolis on an ex-Sebastian Lindholm Escort, while Delecour’s car will flaunt the Martini Racing colours of Malcom Wilson. Also worthy of mention are the 1997 Peugeot 306 Maxi of Manuel Senra Caamano, the 1990 BMW M3 with Bastos livery from the days of Marc Duez, which will be piloted by Donagh Kelly, the 1997 Seat Ibiza Kit Car Evo II, ex-Rovanpera, of Ismael Trigo Couto and the Mitsubishi Evo 6 RS winner of the 2001 World Rally Production championship with Gabriel Pozzo brought to Rallylegend by Paolo De Francesco.

And some equally impressive examples of World Rally Car, such as the rare 2000 Hyundai Accent WRC, ex Alister McRae, of Marcello Miotto, the 2002 Ford Focus WRC, ex Colin McRae, of Alberto Sassi, the 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer WRC 05, ex Gigi Galli, of Andrew Nesbitt, the 2006 Ford Focus WRC 06, ex Gronholm, of Austin Mac Hale, the 2011 Ford Fiesta WRC, ex Hirvonen, on the racetrack with Alberto Otero Quintela, the other 2012 Ford Fiesta WRC, ex Solberg, of Cristiano Fenoglio and, last but not least, two cars that were powered to victory by His Majesty Sebastien Loeb: the Citroen Xsara WRC of Francisco Valdes Quinza and the Citroen DS3 WRC 2011 of Fernando Garrido.

Entrare nel Parco Chiuso di Rallylegend, che poi chiuso non è in quanto il pubblico può accedere ed avvicinare le macchine lì parcheggiate, è come aprire uno scrigno colmo di pietre preziose.

Alcune più splendenti, certamente, ma tutte hanno imprese da raccontare, con livree che gli appassionati hanno ben impresse nella memoria. Un libro di storia in movimento, che nella edizione che va ad iniziare giovedì 12 ottobre, presenta capitoli strepitosi.

Come, iniziando da una vera regina, due splendide Lancia Stratos: una, del 1975, ex “Speedy” Perazio affidata a Federico Ormezzano, che ne è stato un grande inteprete, e l’altra, ex Bernard Darniche, nelle mani di uno dei fratelli Avandero. Aldo Fasan, nome noto nei rally anni ‘70 e ’80 piloterà la sua affascinante Alpine Renault A110, stessa vettura, ex Bernard Darniche, che vedrà al volante a Rallylegend Alain Serpaggi. E restando in casa Renault, Renè Arnoux disporrà di una R5 Turbo Diac ex Chatriot. È del 1986 la sempre attraente Lancia Delta S4 Martini Racing, guidata a Montercarlo da Miki Biasion, di Paolo Valli. Blasone importante – è stata guidata da Colin McRae – per la Subaru Legacy del 1990 di “Lucky” Battistolli, come per la Toyota Celica ST185 ex Auriol prima al rallye di Sanremo 1993 che vedrà al volante Juha Kankkunen ed anche per la Lancia Delta Integrale Martini Racing che ritroverà alla guida lo stesso Andrea Aghini che la portò alla vittoria nel Sanremo 1992. Tante le Subaru Impreza con passato di grande prestigio, come la mitica N1WRC, guidata da Colin nella stagione 1996, che sarà esposta e in parata, e la altrettanto leggendaria L555BAT, macchina appartenente alla famiglia del compianto Colin, con alla guida Jimmy McRae navigato dalla nipote Hollie, con un terzetto delle meraviglie che vedrà una Impreza ex Richard Burns, quella del titolo Mondiale 2001, con Jo Burns, sorella del compianto campione inglese, in veste di navigatrice. Passato di pregio anche per le due Ford Escort Cosworth di cui disporranno Miki Biasion e Francois Delecour. Per il campione italiano ci sarà la livrea della sua ultima vittoria iridata all’Acropoli 1993 su una Escort ex Sebastian Lindholm, mentre avrà i colori Martini Racing ex Malcom Wilson quella di Delecour. Meritano una citazione la Peugeot 306 Maxi 1997 ex Delecour di Manuel Senra Caamano, la Bmw M3 1990 vestita Bastos al tempo per Marc Duez che vedrà al volante Donagh Kelly, la Seat Ibiza Kit Car Evo II 1997 ex Rovanpera di Ismael Trigo Couto e la Mitsubishi Evo 6 RS vincitrice del campionato Mondiale Rally Produzione 2001 con Gabriel Pozzo portata a Rallylegend da Paolo De Francesco.

Nomi da brivido anche tra le World Rally Car: la rara Hyundai Accent WRC 2000 ex Alister McRae di Marcello Miotto, la Ford Focus WRC 2002 ex Colin McRae di Alberto Sassi, la Mitsubishi Lancer WRC 05 2004 ex Gigi Galli di Andrew Nesbitt, la  Ford Focus WRC 06 2006 ex Gronholm di Austin Mac Hale, la Ford Fiesta WRC 2011ex Hirvonen in gara con Alberto Otero Quintela, l’altra Ford Fiesta WRC 2012 ex Solberg di Cristiano Fenoglio per chiudere in bellezza con due macchine portate alla vittoria da Sua Maestà Sebastien Loeb: la Citroen Xsara WRC di Francisco Valdes Quinza e la Citroen DS3 WRC 2011 di Fernando Garrido.
